Welcome from the Chair
Hello,
Our majors in Mathematics and Computer Science
are designed to prepare students for a variety
of careers as well as for graduate school. Some
of our recent alumni are pursuing graduate degrees,
some are teaching, and others are working as
financial analysts, as actuaries, as programmers,
or in government positions.
Since our classes are small, we get to know
our students well. Furthermore, our majors help
us select and schedule classes each year and
we regularly offer Independent Studies and Special
Topics courses which are of interest to our students
but are not among our regular course offerings.
At our weekly seminars for our majors and faculty
together the agenda varies from week to week.
Sometimes we have presentations by students or
faculty members, sometimes we have guest speakers,
and sometimes we watch a math related movie.
Of course, there are weeks when we have no program
and we just order pizza and socialize.
Our majors and minors have the opportunity
to apply to live in the Math and Computer Science
House, a small residential facility with room
for four students to live and study together.
It contains a kitchen, a TV/DVD room, a math
library, and a study area equipped with a computer,
printer, and scanner.
If you’re a prospective student considering
Washington College, I’d enjoy talking with
you and having you visit one or more of our classes
when you come to visit the campus. If you’re
a current student trying to decide about a major,
a graduate school, a career, or a course, I’d
be glad to talk to you as well. Please feel free
to contact me with any questions you have or
for further information and please stop by. My
e-mail address is lamick2@washcoll.edu, my phone
number is 410-778-7866, and my office is Dunning N101a.
Sincerely,
Louise Amick
